Montessori School Meyrin – Geneva Secondary Cycle (Ages 12–15)

The Montessori Secondary Cycle (ages 12–15)

a unique opportunity for adolescents to learn differently, to thrive, and to collaborate as they prepare to become enlightened and responsible adults.

Present on every continent, Montessori education for adolescents is recognized for fostering a love of learning, self-confidence, and personal fulfillment.
Through the projects they initiate, adolescents develop academic skills and experience the realities of adult work.

The mission of the Montessori Secondary Cycle at Meyrin is to offer a bilingual educational environment that responds appropriately to the many challenges adolescents face during this complex period of life.

Adolescence is a critical time of transition and self-discovery for every young person.

They have a natural desire for adventure, and the adolescent can be seen as an explorer of the world and their environment.

We must therefore respond to their fundamental needs by:

  • Encouraging self-worth

  • Building self-confidence

  • Supporting them in the construction of a new identity

  • Offering opportunities for rich social life and meaningful contribution to society

  • Allowing them to develop their creative potential

  • Promoting the expression of their personal opinions

Creating a structured framework with meaningful rituals

Adolescents need a structured environment to help them build their identity and personality.

We support adolescents in creating experiences of solidarity and responsibility. The adult’s role is to guide without removing the effort required to learn independently—facilitating encounters and broadening their horizons.

Our team is present to help them take risks in authentic situations—without putting them in danger:

  • By offering a space where they can lead and take full responsibility for their own projects

  • By putting them in frequent contact with nature through real-life situations

Activities on a farm and working the land represent valuable learning opportunities and can be meaningfully connected to the official academic curriculum of the DIP (Department of Public Instruction).

Placed in real-life situations, the adolescent gains a better understanding of community life and finds a sense of belonging. They learn to make choices while respecting the rules of society. They develop a sense of justice and awareness of their societal role, helping them find their place in the world.

To develop a strong personal identity, adolescents need to act in the world and discover themselves through concrete activities and nature-based projects that connect them to their environment.

What we offer in the 12–15-year-old classroom:

  • A multi-level class grouping students from grades 9, 10, and 11

“Help adolescents to prepare themselves for life.” – Maria Montessori

The Montessori Secondary Cycle in Meyrin is based on active pedagogy. Once a week, students go to our partner farm site to manage micro-economy projects.
We also prepare them for the exams required to enter traditional schools.

All of these are opportunities to combine academic learning with hands-on work in a spirit of collaboration.
